FEWKES SPORT MANAGEMENT CLIENTS STAR AT DONINGTON PARK

Fewkes Sport Management clients Mikey Doble and Danny Dwyer made their mark at Donington Park this past weekend (22/23 April) as they kick-started their respective Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship and Porsche Sprint Challenge GB campaigns off in impressive fashion.

On what proved to be a wet and wild season-opener at the Leicestershire venue, Doble enjoyed a debut to remember in the UK’s premier motorsport series as he claimed an Independents’ class victory, whilst Dwyer underlined his talents with a trio of top-five finishes and front-running pace.

Having only joined the FSM books ten months ago with the aim of one day making it to the BTCC, Doble saw his long-held dreams become a reality as he took on a starring role at the wheel of his CarStore Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall Astra.

After holding himself well in both qualifying and race one, the 24-year-old came to the fore in a memorable second race as he rolled the dice to change to wet tyres. This allowed Doble to showcase his talent behind the wheel in what were challenging weather and track conditions.

Carving his way up the order with a string of sensational overtakes, the former Ginetta GT5 Challenge and BMW Compact Cup champion made a last lap move to not only secure fifth place overall, but also victory in the Independents’ class – securing him his first piece of 2023 silverware.

There was plenty to be excited about for Dwyer too, as he embarked on the latest chapter of his fledgling motorsport journey competing in the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB with established championship-winning Ginetta team Xentek Motorsport.

Piloting his striking Porsche Cayman GT4, Dwyer – who thanks to FSM has had clear structure built around him which includes coaching from reigning BTCC champion Tom Ingram – was consistently one of the fastest drivers in the Am Class across all sessions.

Securing two top-four finishes and a fifth place over the course of the weekend, Dwyer established himself as one to watch for the rest of the season as he challenges for AM Class honours.

“What a brilliant way to start the year,” enthused Will Fewkes, FSM Founder. “Confidence was high heading into Donington Park, so to see Mikey stand on the podium in just his second BTCC race and Danny score three top five finishes is just fantastic.

“Mikey joined FSM less than a year ago with the ambition of getting to the BTCC in two to three years. To have been able to work with him in securing a place one the grid this year, but also then see him take an Independents’ class win in just his second race is incredible. He will be one to watch as his career develops.

“We’re now into a third season of working with Danny and its clear to see that he will be one of the leading lights this year. To be one of the fastest drivers in his class and bank points on his debut weekend in a new car and championship is a testament to the work we at FSM, Xentek and him personally, have put in behind the scenes.

“I’m confident that last weekend’s results will only serve as the catalyst for more success as the season goes on.”
