ROB HUFF TO MAKE FULL-TIME BTCC RETURN WITH TOYOTA GAZOO RACING UK

World champion Rob Huff will make a popular full-time return to the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship this year after announcing that he will join TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK.

Two decades on since he last contested an entire season in the UK’s premier motorsport series, the 44-year-old has teamed up with Speedworks Motorsport to pilot a manufacturer-backed Toyota Corolla GR Sport to what he hopes will be glory in 2024.

Huff – who lifted the FIA World Touring Car Championship title in 2012, the Swedish Touring Car Championship in 2020 and narrowly missed out on the Kumho TCR World Tour crown last year with Audi – became the latest high-profile name to join FSM’s talent roster at the start of the year.

Tasked with working on the Cambridge-born drivers’ racing plans both on and off the track moving forward, the agency have played an integral role in negotiations for Huff to join the multiple race-winning outfit.

Rising to superstardom in 2004, the two-time BRDC Gold Star winner scored two BTCC wins with SEAT, before going on to enjoy worldwide success that included 44 victories on the world stage whilst representing Chevrolet, Honda, Lada, Volkswagen and Cupra.

Now having secured a full-time return to the grid, the 11-time Macau Grand Prix winner is eager to hit the ground running and establish himself as a contender for the coveted championship from the get-go.

“It feels like I’ve come full circle in my career and it’s mega to be returning to the BTCC on a full-time basis, 20 years on,” said Huff. “I’ve always been a huge supporter of the championship and I’ve had my sights set on returning to the series for some time now. It’s great to now be back!

“The main priority for me was to ensure that I’m in a potential championship-winning car with people who share my passion and enthusiasm for the sport – and at TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK, that’s what I believe I’ve found. I like what they do and how the go about doing it.

“We’ve put together a strong infrastructure that I believe will give us a fantastic opportunity to not only fight for wins and podiums on a regular basis, but also launch a serious championship challenge. I can’t wait to get going!”

“It is great to see that Rob will return to the BTCC in what is sure to be the biggest news of the winter for the championship,” added Fewkes, FSM Founder.

“Rob has a lot of unfinished business here, has a clear goal of wanting to win the championship, and I would like to thank Speedworks and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK for putting together this great opportunity and package.”

The 2024 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season commences at Donington Park – on the Leicestershire venues National layout – on April 27/28.

All of the action throughout the season will be broadcast live and in high-definition across ITV channels.
