Fewkes Sport Management’s Gilles Magnus savoured Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS title glory in Saudi Arabia this past weekend (27-30 November), as he and Saintéloc Racing were crowned 2024 Gold Endurance Cup champions.
Closing out what has been a year to remember for the Belgian racer on the streets of Jeddah, Magnus – along with team mates Paul Evrard and Jim Pla – produced a flawless performance under the lights to claim a third class win of the season and with it, championship honours.
Going into the final round of the season with the coveted crown in their sights, the Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II trio narrowly missed out on pole position in qualifying. However, that only set the scene for a frenetic battle for victory in the prestigious six-hour contest.
Underlining his credentials as a star attraction within endurance racing, Magnus was wheel-perfect throughout his time on-track and his stints proved crucial in ensuring the team ultimately charged to the top step of the podium.
Ending the year as a champion, Magnus’ season in one of the world’s leading sports car racing series has been nothing short of spectacular with wins coming at Circuit Paul Ricard, Nürburgring and now the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
In addition, the 25-year-old also claimed class podiums at CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa in Belgium and Monza.
Magnus said: “I’m really happy; we did a great job finishing every endurance and that ultimately what it was all about. We were nothing but efficient winning three of the five races and finishing second in the other two.”
“As a team we didn’t take any risks and made sure that we played it smart. I have to say a big thank you to everyone at Saintéloc Racing and to Paul for putting their trust in me. Now let’s see what the future brings.”
“We at FSM are delighted to see that the hard work of Gilles, Paul, Jim and everybody at Saintéloc Racing culminated in them bringing home the Fanatec GT World Challenge Endurance Gold Cup Drivers’ title,” added Will Fewkes, FSM Founder.
“Not only that, they went one better and secured the Teams’ Championship to round out a fantastic year.”
“Gilles has been nothing short of impressive throughout the Sprint Cup and Endurance Cup campaigns in 2024 – his professionalism and speed have been displayed time and time again through his performances on and off track. I am sure that he has a very exciting future ahead of him.”
Rob Huff, FSM Performance Pathway Director, continued: “I’m delighted for Gilles and the rest of the Saintéloc Racing team. To piece together a title charge is no mean feat – especially in a championship as competitive as GT World Challenge Europe – so huge congratulations goes to them.”
“Gilles has demonstrated exactly what we all at FSM saw in him, his natural raw speed and professionalism. He’s reached new levels both in and out the car this year, so I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next for him – he’s a real emerging talent.”
